Adjusting to life Sydneyside: first impressions of eating in Sydney

So after 6 months, unemployed, homeless and travelling around the world eating and drinking in some of the best restaurants we have finally arrived in Australia to settle down for a bit.

This is the main reason that this blog has taken a bit of a hiatus, because since we left China life has been a bit of a whirlwind. We've gotten married (again), found jobs, found a place to live and started settling into life in Sydney.

Now we have bought everything we need to complete our new place, including an amazing fridge which at some point I may write an ode to on this blog because, in terms of my ideal kitchen, it is definitely close to being everything I have ever dreamed of (sad or what!!). I am hoping that from now on my weekends are going to be less taken up wandering aimlessly around Ikea remembering the words of Tyler Durden in fight club, so I am hoping to have a bit of time to write a few pieces for the blog again.

You may have noticed that I have finally written up our adventures in China, although this is a while ago now I did make some fairly extensive notes at the time, but once again failed to follow up with everything else which has been going on.

What are my first impressions of life down under. The most important thing is that Australia has an abundance of restaurants, which I am looking forward to visiting and writing about. Some of the highlights of the last few months have included a trip to Sixpenny in Sydney's Newtown, lunch at the Bridge Room as part of Syndey's restaurant week and a Chinese in china town with an authenticity which had me half expecting that when I left I would be back on the streets of Bejing.

The main thing I have noticed about Australia is that, because of the weather, most things happen outside. This blog for instance is being written in our back garden (after an extensive spider check) while I sipping away on my lunchtime coffee. The love of the outdoors is also extended to the restaurants, the suburb we have moved to has a large supply of restaurants, most of which boasting al fresco dining with the pavements being filled with diners most week night evenings. The only downside is that there is a lot less to do in Sydney when it rains (luckily so far that doesn't seem to happen all that often).

The one thing that I am missing so far is a decent curry, in every other form of cuisine I have found restaurants here are on a par with the UK however when it comes to a decent curry I have a feeling that the UK is going to be pretty hard to beat in those terms. Luckily I have a couple of recipes which I am pretty sure will help me re-create a British style Lamb Rogan Josh right here in Australia.
